1980s / 1990s
1985: Company founded
Lawyer and auditor Dr. Bernard gr. Broermann founds the Asklepios Group.
1987: On course for growth
Takeover and restructuring of numerous former public hospitals. After the fall of the Berlin Wall, eastern Germany becomes a focal point for regional company growth.
1998: First EFQM certification in Germany
An Asklepios hospital is the first hospital in Germany to be certified by the EFQM (European Foundation for Quality Management): the Asklepios Clinic Triberg.
2000s
2002: First successful KTQ certification nationwide
The Asklepios Stadtklinik Bad Tölz is the first clinic in Germany to be certified according to KTQ (Cooperation for Quality and Transparency in Healthcare).
2004: Asklepios in Hamburg – takeover of LBK
Largest hospital privatization in Germany: Asklepios Kliniken GmbH is awarded the contract for the LBK hospitals in Hamburg (now Asklepios Kliniken Hamburg). This makes Asklepios the operator of the largest private hospital group at a single location in Europe.
2005: Founding of the Asklepios Ärzteakademie (Medical Academy)
2007: Founding of Asklepios Research Funding and launch of the Asklepios Online Library
Asklepios offers its employees a comprehensive medical library in the form of the Asklepios Online Library. This gives employees extensive access to medical journals, books and databases in full-text format. The online content is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, at every workplace and also at home.
2010s
2010: Asklepios enters the public capital market
2011: 52.7% stake in MediClin AG
Since September 2011, the Asklepios Group has held a majority stake in MediClin AG. MediClin is a nationwide hospital operator and a major provider in the fields of neuroscience, psychology and orthopaedics.
2012: Share in RHÖN-KLINIKUM AG > 5%
Asklepios' stake in RHÖN-KLINIKUM AG exceeds 5%.
2015: Online therapy for psychiatric patients
In cooperation with the Dutch company Minddistrict, Asklepios clinics launch a pilot project in which psychiatric treatment is supplemented by new online care. Advantages for patients: Since the therapy components from the online modules can be combined individually, treatment becomes more personalized overall. In many cases, patients no longer have to travel long distances to the clinic, and waiting times can be bridged in a meaningful way. Many exercises can also be done at home and questionnaires can be completed online. At the same time, contact with the team of therapists can be more frequent.
2015: 1st Asklepios Lifesaver Award presented
Asklepios rewards courageous actions by laypeople: Chest compressions save 5,000 lives in Germany every year. The Asklepios clinics are now honoring two lifesavers for their exemplary efforts. The two Hamburg-based award winners are examples of medical laypeople who made the right decision at the right moment and saved a human life with chest compressions. The Asklepios Lifesaver Award is endowed with 1,000 euros and was presented for the first time. The Asklepios Clinic Group will also offer a lifesaver award at other locations in the future to reward exemplary actions.
2017: Blocking minority in RHÖN-KLINIKUM AG
Asklepios' stake in RHÖN-KLINIKUM AG reaches a blocking minority of 25.1%.
2020s
February 2020: Joint venture with Eugen Münch
Asklepios and RHÖN-KLINIKUM AG founder Eugen Münch enter into a joint venture. Asklepios submits a takeover bid to all remaining shareholders of RHÖN-KLINIKUM AG.
July 2020: Asklepios acquires RHÖN-KLINIKUM AG
Successful completion of the takeover bid and start of the strategic partnership with RHÖN-KLINIKUM AG.
