We cover the entire spectrum of oral and maxillofacial and plastic surgery of the head and neck:Oral Surgery (Wisdom teeth, Tooth transplantation)
The removal of retained, displaced or severely decayed teeth, replantation, transplantation, and dental hygiene is offered. We assist in the oral rehabilitation of disabled and difficult-to-manage patients. In this we are assisted by a dental surgeon with extensive experience in the field (Dr Rieger, Consultant Dental Surgeon, Allgemeines Krankenhaus Ochsenzoll). The spectrum includes bone distraction, the removal of cysts and tumours, and the management of lesions of the mouth lining (Oral mucosa). Implantology (Single tooth replacement, Sinus lift procedure) Missing teeth are replaced by titanium implants. This avoids the need to drill and prepare a perfectly healthy tooth in order to assist in the artificial replacement. In close co-operation with the referring dentist, a detailed treatment plan insofar as the number and location of implants, as well as the anticipated final result are drawn up and discussed. To cover individual requirements, we have made provision for an extensive range of implants (e.g. Frialit II, ITI, Branemark, Altatec etc.). The edentulous jaw can be rehabilitated with between 4-6 implants. The requirement for additional bone is met by the performance of procedures such as sinus lift and bone grafts. Bone distraction can also be accomplished by the use of implants. Further information is available on request.
Traumatology (Dental fractures, Jaw fractures) Broken teeth are repaired and splinted in the correct position. Teeth dislodged by the use of force can often be successfully replaced by implantation and stabilisation of these teeth. Jaw fractures and injuries to the facial soft-tissues are treated. To this end, we operate in close association with the Departments of Ear-, Nose- and Throat Surgery (Prof. Dr. Handrock), Ophthalmology (Prof. Dr. Dr. Wiegand), Surgery (Prof. Dr. Rückert) and Neurosurgery (Prof. Dr. Friedrich). Preprosthetic Surgery (Floor of mouth vestibuloplasty, Distraction osteogenesis) To assist in the retention of dentures, we perform floor of mouth surgery and vestibuloplasty operations. In many cases, this assists in the retention of dentures, so that a lined dentures can be worn with comfort. We are also able to increase the amount of bone responsible for the support of the denture, by performing a procedure known as distraction osteogenesis. This enables the placement of implants which support loose dentures.
Orthognathic surgery (Progenia, Distraction) If jaws are too small or too big, these can be surgically moved into the new position and fixed there. In the past, this operation required the upper and lower jaws to be wired together for a period of up to 6 weeks, however, by the use of miniplates and screws for individual jaw fixation, this is seldom necessary nowadays. Preoperative planning includes up to 18 months of orthodontic treatment, and the actual operation is chosen and executed in close association with the treating orthodontist, who is frequently part of the operating team. With Computer software we are able to simulate the operate result.
